The Texas Rangers officially confirmed the acquisition of pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on Tuesday evening, and details of his contract have since been disclosed.

ESPN.com added that the contract includes a third-year vesting option, along with performance-based incentives. To be more precise, the contract has the potential to extend to three years and $63 million, contingent on specific circumstances, as multiple reports have indicated.

Eovaldi’s base salary is set for two years at $34 million. This places Eovaldi as the third-highest paid starting pitcher on the Rangers’ roster heading into the 2023 season, trailing behind Jacob deGrom and Martin Perez. Additionally each year of the contract features a $3 million bonus if Eovaldi achieves 160 innings pitched—an accomplishment he has reached twice in his career.

Nathan Eovaldi contract: Following the second year of the contract, there is a player option. If Eovaldi logs a combined 300 innings in 2023 and 2024, he can activate a $20 million option for the 2025 season, accompanied by an additional $3 million in potential bonus earnings. Should Eovaldi fulfill the entirety of the contract, it will conclude in the same year as Jon Gray’s four-year, $56 million deal, which he signed last offseason.

Over his career, he has also contributed his talents to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Boston Red Sox. Eovaldi’s MLB journey commenced in 2011, and he has since achieved notable milestones, including clinching World Series titles with the Red Sox in 2018 and the Rangers in 2023. He was honored as an All-Star in both 2021 and 2023.

Early Years:
Raised in Alvin, Texas, Eovaldi attended Alvin High School, where he showcased his baseball prowess. Despite facing adversity with a Tommy John surgery during his junior year, Eovaldi’s skills were evident. In 2008, his senior year, he received an honorable mention on Texas’ All-State team. Eovaldi committed to Texas A&M University on a baseball scholarship.

In 2010, with the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino, he earned a spot on the mid-season California League all-star team. He moved up to the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Class AA Southern League in 2011, earning another mid-season all-star selection.

Texas Rangers (2023–present):
In a significant move, on December 27, 2022, Eovaldi signed a lucrative two-year contract, featuring a third-year vesting player option, with the Texas Rangers, amounting to $34 million guaranteed. His impact was immediately felt as he started crucial games in the 2023 World Series, securing a pivotal win. This victory led the Rangers to their first-ever World Series triumph in franchise history. Throughout the 2023 postseason, Eovaldi served as the ace of the Rangers’ pitching rotation, tallying an impressive 5 wins in 6 starts, with a notable no decision in the opening game of the World Series.
